Cuba In Layers - May 2016
These images emerged as a fortuitous accident.

When I entered the incredible La Guarida paladar in Havana, Cuba, my camera had accidentally been switched to a double exposure setting. This entrance was a magnificent abandoned space where the restaurant hangs their linens to dry. This inspiring environment combined with this new feature opened up a new world of artistic expression. It allowed me to think outside of the box, and play with exposure and composition in a new way.

In this “unrehearsed” creativity space I found a less “evaluating” mind emerge. I discovered a new uninhibited flow of creativity. This style also allowed me to capture something vital and enduring about the human condition and the spirit of Cuba.  It’s hard to imagine a city of several million with no advertising, no billboards, no neon. Nada.  The internet is limited and "connectivity" is literally about music, dance, and community.

These images are meant to be a conversation, to reveal the layers of complexity, innocence, and beauty found in Cuba.
